South African law (POPIA — the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013) says that when we collect your personal information, we must tell you certain things upfront. This notice does exactly that, in plain language.
01Who is collecting your information?
Pettyworx is the responsible party. We are the company that decides how and why your personal information is used, and we are accountable for protecting it.
Contact: privacy@pettyworx.co.za
02What personal information do we collect?
Personal information is any information that can identify you as a person. Here is what we collect:
From everyone:
- Your name
- Your mobile number
- Your location (suburb/area)
From providers, additionally:
- Your South African ID number and a copy of your ID document
- A selfie photo
- Your bank account details
- Professional certifications (where applicable)
From all users during normal use:
- Messages and photos shared during jobs
- Job and payment history
- Device information and how you use the app
03Why do we need it?
We collect your information only to run the Pettyworx platform. Specifically:
- To verify your identity — for the safety of all users
- To match you with the right jobs or providers
- To process payments so money goes to the right place
- To communicate with you — job updates, notifications, support
- To handle disputes fairly and with evidence
- To comply with South African law — some records are legally required
We do not collect information “just in case.” If we do not need it, we do not ask for it.
04Do we share your information?
We only share your information with people who help us run the platform:
- Payment service providers — to process your transactions
- SMS and push notification services — to send you updates
- Identity verification services — to check ID documents
- Cloud hosting providers — where your data is stored securely
- Our staff — limited to those who need it to do their job
We never sell your personal information to anyone.
We may be required to share information with law enforcement or regulatory bodies if the law compels us to.
05Is providing your information voluntary?
Some information is required:
- Your mobile number is required to create an account
- Providers must complete identity verification before accepting paid jobs
Other information (like a detailed profile or service description) is optional but helps you get better results on the platform.
